TOFES
The Owings Family Endowed Scholarship
Supporting Innovation and Collaboration for the Future
What's TOFES's Process?
•Problem-solving •Project Management •Team-building
In the twenty-first century, TOFES carries on the Owings family traditions. In this case, it's not to survive war, famine, flood, pestilence, and every sort of adversity, but like them, our students will use imagination, innovation, creativity and grit to achieve their goals:
-
Foster interdisciplinary thought. problem-solving and real-world collaboration;
-
Generate student-produced product gaining employable skills;
-
Expand career-enhancing experience for the faculty person.
Mentoring, partnership and usefulness are key to The Owings Family Endowed Scholarship.

Collaboration
An advising faculty member partnering with a student will propose and then complete a project that demonstrates an innovative response to solving a problem in a way that has value to a center, institute or organization (non-profit, corporation, laboratory, museum, start-up, etc.). The project may be initiated in one of several ways:
-
By a faculty member who can assist in creating a collaboration with a student and organization,
-
By an organizational entity, which will then add an interested student and faculty member,
-
By a student or an organization with a project and then will add an interested faculty member.
All projects will have 3 partners working together--a faculty member, a student and a collaborating organizational entity. The student will receive 85% of the funds available; the faculty advisor 15%; the organization will have a problem solved.
